Good questions.
Simple answers.
Need a hand with What Was That? — Good Finds? Here is how to keep your ideas close, share a collection and make the app feel like yours.
Save your first good idea
Open Saved and tap +. Add a title, choose films, food, games or places, and write the name of the person who recommended it. Notes, a link and a collection are optional.
Try a few examples
When your library is empty, open You and tap “Explore with sample recommendations”. The four fictional examples help you explore the app. You can edit or delete them any time.
Share a collection
Open Collections, choose a collection and tap its share button. Send the .wwt file using the iOS share sheet. Your friend can open it in What Was That?, preview its contents and import a copy. Later changes stay with each person's own copy.
Personalise a widget
Touch and hold your iPhone Home Screen. Tap Edit, then Add Widget, and search for What Was That? After adding a widget, hold it and choose Edit Widget to select its category, collection and colour.
Keep a backup
Open You and export a backup before moving to another phone or deleting the app. Store the file somewhere you trust. Restore it from You on your new phone; restoring replaces the current library.
Is everything included?
Yes. This release is free, including collection sharing and custom widgets. There are no subscriptions, ads or accounts. The app requires iOS 26 or later.
